COVID-19 Update-May 1st

May 1, 2020

Following the announcement from Governor Kelly yesterday evening, we wanted to inform our customers of our plan to reopen. Starting on Monday, May 4th, we will reopen our office with full staff. While our office will be open, we ask that customers try to make payments over the phone, online, through our drop box, and at American Bank in Columbus to limit social contact. If a customer needs to come into our office, we also ask that a social distance of six feet is maintained.

We will also begin in-home installations and service at this time. Our team will continue safety precautions, including pre-screening, before we enter a home. Our team also can choose to not enter a home if they feel that their health is at risk. In addition to these precautions, we will continue to sanitize and clean our office frequently to protect both our customers as well as our employees.

Optic Communications truly appreciates everyone’s support during this tough time. We know that this has been difficult for everyone in our area, we will get through this together. We look forward to working with our customers again and continuing to be your service provider!

COVID-19 Update-April 14th

In accordance with FCC regulations, Optic Communications will not be disconnecting customers for non-payment until May 15th, 2020. Please note that it is possible that this date will be extended further. While we are not disconnecting customers at this time, customers are still expected to complete payments. Payments will be required to reconnect service once disconnected.

Optic Communications is taking payments online, over the phone at (855) 806-7325, in the dropbox at our main office, as well as at American Bank in Columbus. Please contact us with any questions!

A Letter From Our General Manager

April 7, 2020

Dear Optic Customers,

During this time of unprecedented uncertainty, all of us here at Optic Communications are concerned about our families, colleagues, customers, and many friends that make up our community.

Our office is currently closed, but we have a skeleton office and technician crew. We are working rotation shifts at this time to meet the demands of our customers. Payments can be dropped in our drop box, American Bank, online, or by phone 620-429-3132.

We will continue to have technicians on hand to upgrade current devices or remotely troubleshoot as many problems as possible. Arrangements can be made to drop off routers and we will walk you through the installation process over the phone. If you have any questions, please call our office at 620-429-3132.

To our students/parents we have 3 Wi-Fi hot spots around town and a fourth location is in the works. Please look at our map on our website (optic-communications.com) and Facebook for locations. We still encourage everyone to apply social distancing and hygiene protocols based on guidance from the health authorities.

We look forward to getting back to normal, enjoying the outdoors, fresh flowers, blue skies, and healthy people.

God Bless each and everyone of you.

Sincerely,

Dave Soper

P.S. Channel 5, which aired The Cowboy Channel, is now back up and running.

Hot Spots Available for Students!

As a service to our community’s students, Optic Communications and Columbus Schools USD 493 are offering Wi-Fi hot spots so that students can continue their online learning. There will be three locations available at this time: The Columbus High School parking lot, The Columbus Ballparks, and the park next to our main office at the corner of Kansas Ave and Pine St. We hope that these locations are helpful to those students that need a solid connection to maintain their school work. We will keep these locations active until June 30, 2020. We also ask that those using the Wi-Fi offered follow the guidelines put out by the state of Kansas and practice social distancing!

COVID-19 Update

As we all work through these uncertain times, Optic Communications would like to give our customers an update on our current plan. Per our previous statement, we have reevaluated the situation and will be keeping our office closed and will not be entering customer homes until May 1, 2020. It will be reevaluated then and will potentially be moved back again. We will still be able to solve as many issues as we can remotely, as well as take payments online and over the phone. We truly appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding at this time! To make a phone payment, please call us at (855) 806-7325!

eBill Maintenance Scheduled for Tomorrow

We will be performing maintenance on our online payment system from 9:00pm to 11:00pm tomorrow, Wednesday, February 19th, 2020. We apologize for the short notice and for any inconvenience this causes!

eBill to be Down for Scheduled Maintanence

Optic Communications will be performing scheduled maintenance on our eBill system on Thursday, August 30th from 10:00 PM-Friday, August 31st at 1:00 AM. The system will not be available during this time. We appreciate everyone’s patience!

General Manager Update (August 3, 2018)

8/3/18 General Manager’s Update

Phase III:

Happy Friday to everyone.  Appaloosa is where my construction tech has been placing white flags.  He has completed the east west portion last week and I see some utilities have been marked.  Today, my construction tech was starting to flag routes on the north south part of Appaloosa.

The drop crew is finishing up in Edgewood Circle.  They will make their way to Appaloosa next week.  They will stay on Appaloosa until they have completed everyone who has signed up.

The splicing team that follows the drop crew was working in the Maple and Willow areas.  They will try and stay close to the drop crew.

The final group is the install team, where they have been active in the Foxfire area.  They will continue to move safely and quickly around the property.  We are doing our best to get everyone hooked up ASAP.

A request that I have for the residents in Loma Linda.  We have some terminals that are in the right of way, please do not deface these.  We discovered one today where an individual screwed something to our terminal.  These are designed to be waterproof and any holes in the unit could lead to outages down the road.  Thank you for understanding.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Todd Van Epps

General Manager Update (July 20, 2018)

7/20/18 General Manager’s Update

Phase III:

Happy Friday to everyone.  The drop installation crew has a couple areas that they’ve completed; Butterfield PL and Maple Dr.  They are still picking up customers as they progress along Butterfield but have spent a good portion of the last couple weeks in the Willow Lane & Willow Way area.  They should be finishing that area up early next week.

The splicing team that follows the drop crew completed their work in Butterfield PL, a few on Butterfield Drive, and the Fox Fire Dr. area.

My install team continues to work as safely and quickly as they can.  They have completed some work in the Rosebud Circle and Willow area.  I know these areas are further apart but the install crew will bounce around based on what appointments work for a particular customer.

I want to thank the customers that have allowed me to bring other Optic employees to their homes.  This allows for my office employees to see what the home installation process looks like.  It also allows me to see our new Optic customers and personally thank them.

Have a wonderful weekend,

Todd Van Epps

General Manager Update (July 6, 2018)

7/6/18 General Manager’s Update

Phase III:

We at Optic Communications had a safe and happy 4th of July, I’m hoping that you all did as well.   I had the chance to drive around for a bit this morning and wanted to say thanks to the people I had a conversation with.  Please be careful in this heat. Now to the latest update.

Our drop team observed some extra holiday time off this last week so there was not as much activity completed as normal weeks.  They will be back in action starting right away on Monday and continue with the motion they started in the Willow area. They also started to place piping in the Butterfield Place area so we continue our progress across Butterfield.  All the rock in the Loma Linda makes for a slower working process, but the team is persistent and they do a quality job.

One of our splicers was at the intersection of Rosebud & N Loma Linda Dr.  Watch for those trailers to be parked in strategic areas, that is when the fiber is being put together to transmit light up to your premise.  They will continue to follow the drop team around.

My install team continues to get services installed quickly and we appreciate you making and keeping appointments so we can move to your neighbor quickly.

Thank you,

Todd Van Epps
